Bandipora: Do not be deluded if you hear much noise about Swach Bharat Abhiyan in District Bandipora. The place seems to have been turned into an open air dumping yard with officials sleeping over the job they ought to do every day.

“What Swachh Bharat Abhiyan? huge amount of garbage remains unattended on daily basis in areas falling under municipal committees areas,” locals said.

People in Bandipora Town and its adjoining areas are irritated and angry about the callous approach of authorities in dispensing their official duties and that too ‘under the garb of SBA’

“Hospital road Nusoo and other adjoing areas are the examples which are full of garbage and authorities didn’t bothered to do anything about it  All they need are photo ops for SBA,” locals at Nusoo said.

The residents say that lakhs of rupees are being drawn for the cleanliness of town but the system has failed and responsibility needs to be fixed.

Locals from Bagh, Nusoo Nowpora and other areas have also expressed strong resentment against Municipal Committee (MC) for turning their areas into a garbage dumping site. They said the pungent smell emanating from the site was causing inconvenience to them. They added that From past 2 years we are requesting MCB Bandipora to provide dustbins, but all in vail.

People from Watapora Village also are struggling as heaps of Garabage have piled up near Sub Centre Watapora.

“Heaps of garbage are on Bandipora – Sopore road near Sub Centre Watapora,’ said they.

.

“There are no dustbins installed in our area and municipal committee workers are in no mood to carry out their professional work to clean the area. The heaps of garbage are haven to stray dogs who have made the life of people miserable,” Abdul Rasheed Teli, a reaident from Nowpora said.

Executive officer Muncipal Commitee Bandipora  Wali Mohammad wani  said that they dont recieve such funds that we will provide dustbins and construct toilets in town. “We are trying our level best to make town neat and clean,” he said.
