Srinagar: The State Human Rights Commission on Monday directed government to prepare a list of retired Doctors who are willing to work during the eventualities including strike by the medicos or to cater extra-ordinary burden on hospitals or in case of natural or other calamities.
“Hopefully, this arrangement will work to minimize the inconvenience caused to the patients in case Doctors go on strike or in case there is extra-ordinary burden on Hospitals or in case of natural or other calamities,” chairperson of SHRC Justice (Retd) Bilal Nazki said and ordered Chief Secretary to do the needful. “Action taken report be filled within three months,” the chairperson added.
The Commission was hearing a Suo-moto cognizance report regarding doctors’ strike and observed that patients had suffered on account of the strike.
The commission observed that certain recommendations need to be made so that such eventualities are addressed in future. “Some of the States have experimented with the idea of engaging retired Doctors on contractual/ voluntary basis during the period of strike. The Government can explore the possibility of utilizing services of retired Doctors during emergencies caused by Doctors strike or natural and other calamities,” the Commission observed before passing the directions to the state through Chief Secretary
