Kupwara:  Viral mouth and foot infection broke out in district kupwara, dozens of animals infected while animal farmers claim several  have died. Authorities are unmoved by the loss, they claim.
Animal farmers of district are worried about their cattle as the number of cattle severely effected by mouth and foot disease has risen steadily from last few weeks.
They said that the foot-and-mouth disease among animals is affecting them severely but animal husbandry department is not helping them in controlling the disease.
“Many cattle died due to this disease, due to high fever, weight loss, death of newborn animals and drastic decrease in milk production,” locals  said.
Many areas of district are out of concerned departments sight, the rise in disease continuee to claim more animals each passing day, locals said.
People who have gone high up in the hills along animals are worst sufferers, they don’t have any resource to take care of the infected animals, locals of qalamabad handwara told INS.
“This disease is called FMD,
Department has already warned  to get  cattle vaccinated, till team of doctors reachs there I suggest the cattle owners to get potassium permagnate powder and wash mouth of these cattle five to six times a day. Also keep other cattle far from effected cattle,” an official not authorised to talk to media said.
He also said that the disease ‘doesn’t have any particular medicine and its treatment is natural by taking some precautionary measures.’
