Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman and Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema patron Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Monday said that it was “unfortunate” that while Kashmir comprises majority of Muslim population only few people follow the concept of Zakat.
Addressing a religious gathering at after Zuhr prayers at Krala Masjid Hawal, Mirwaiz said Zakat is from the among important deeds and has been declared one of the five pillars of Islam.
He termed the fasting month of Ramadan as full of bounties and rewards for the faithful who fast for the sake of Almighty Allah and it’s the month in which Almighty Allah distributes his blessings on the faithful directly.
He said while fasting takes the believes closer to Almighty, it also lays emphasis on making the institution of Zakah more vibrant and the believers must pay Zakah (charity) in this holy month so that poor and destitute too celebrate Eid.
He said this is the reason that Kashmir has a record number of orphans, widows and destitute who crave for two times of food, clothing and shelter.
Mirwaiz urged people to pay charity to deserving institutes so that the financial help needs to the real deserving people and Kashmir emerges as an economically vibrant and stable society.
Mirwaiz said that those paying charity must ensure that the financial help reaches out to hundreds of widows and orphans and other needy persons who suffered due to the ongoing oppression across Kashmir over the past 29 years.
