CRPF trooper killed, militants flee in Pulwama

Srinagar: A paramilitary CRPF trooper was killed in encounter between government forces and militants, who eventually escaped amid massive stone pelting clashes in Pulwama district of south kashmir.
Official sources said that a joint team of army’s 55 Rashtriya Rifles, Police’s SOG and CRPF cordoned off Bargam village Pulwama.
They said that joint team came under fire from hiding militants and the fire was retaliated, triggering off an encounter. The forces, they said, responded with heavy firing and during the course of gunfight, two houses suffered damages. One civilian, believed to be owner of one of the houses suffered injuries and has been hospitalized. Soon youth took to streets and marched towards encounter site, local reports said. The militants, believed to be three in number, managed to escape. A CRPF trooper suffered fatal injuries in the initial firing and succumbed on way to military hospital at Badamibagh Srinagar. The operation was concluded at around a.m. A weapon of CRPF is also missing and it could not be immediately confirmed whether it belonged the trooper who died in the encounter.
