KARGIL:  Chairman and Chief Executive Councilor (CEC) Kargil Kacho Ahmad Ali Khan said that thrust needs to be given to mother tongue in every day conversations as well as intellectual discourses at home and school so that the younger generation is kept abreast of the vernacular linguistic expressions.

The CEC stated this while speaking on the inaugural day of the 2-Day District Level Multilingual Mushaira sessions organized by Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Kargil at Language Centre here today.

While underlining the importance of language and vernacular expressions as intrinsic components that to a great deal determine the identity of a community or race, the CEC said that it is the responsibility of parents and teachers to ensure that the younger generation is imparted knowledge and information in the mother tongue as much as in Urdu and English.

Kacho also stressed for revival of the Ee Gay script and said that Hill Council is fully committed to the promotion and preservation of culture adding all out continued support shall be extended to the Academy in this regard.

The CEC also hailed the efforts of Cultural Academy Kargil for having organized the two-day literary event and expressed hope that this would on the one hand further the process of interaction among intellectuals besides giving fillip to the art of poetry in vernacular languages.

Meanwhile during the first day of the literary event around 25 young and old poets from across the district recited their fresh poetic renderings in Urdu, Balti, Purgi and Shina/Dardi languages which were highly applauded by the guests and the audiences alike.

Assistant Commissioner Development Kargil Barkat Ali Lone Nizami, a number of officers from the civil and police administration, writers, poets, intellectuals, students and a large number of literary enthusiasts were present on the occasion.

Pertinently around 60 poets from across the district are participating in the poetic sessions mainly based on the onset of spring season and other related themes.
