Srinagar: Protests erupted in Kashmir University on Monday against the killing of 13 militants and 4 civilians while 13th Session of the Jammu and Kashmir Science Congress was to be inaugurated by the Governor J&K.

According to eye witnesses students marched through the campus and later assembled outside KU convocation complex while raising pro freedom and anti India slogans.

Police was rushed to the spot and they put a cover around at least 200 protesting students while Governor inaugurated the Science congress.

“Massive sloganeering by students is being done but police is on the spot,” eye witness told INS.

Eye witnesses said that the student marched pass the police cover around them and have reached the convocation center’s gate and massive sloganeering is going on while Governor NN Vohra is speaking to the delegates inside the premises.

20 persons were killed on Sunday including 13 militants, 4 civilians and 3 Army personnel in a major anti militancy operation in South Kashmir. The operation began in the intervening night of Sat-Sun.

Joint Resistance Leadership has called for shutdown.

KU had already postponed exams scheduled for today.
