Protests erupt in Soura over detention of student, tear gas used to quell them

Srinagar: Clashes erupted in Soura area of Srinagar after police detained a boy on Saturday, Police resorted to tear gas shelling to quell the agitated people.

According to eye witnesses students of a local school hit streets after they learnt that a boy from their school has been detained.

“Students including girls came on roads raising anti government slogans and demanded release of the detained student,” eye witnesses said.

Vehicular movement has been disrupted in the area.

“Stone pelting too erupted and police used tear gas to disperse them,” locals said.

Police sources confirmed that a boy has been detained.

Protests in the area were going on.
