State pursuing declaring Mughal road ‘all weather way’ with central govt

Jammu: In order to make Mughal Road an all weather road, the state Govt has been pursuing the matter with Ministry of Road Transport & Highways Government of India for declaration of Mughal road as National Highways and also for construction of a tunnel from Chattapani to Zaznar.

Tenders for preparation of detailed project Report for construction of Tunnel on Mughal Road have been floated by National Highways Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) HQ at New Delhi.

The Likely date by which the Qazigund-Banihal Tunnel will be commissioned is 30-06-2019. The present physical progress of the work is 69.10 per cent.

The road from “Jammu-Akhnoor-Rajouri-Poonch” has been declared as news National Highways 144-A and approved under Prime Ministers Development Package for Rs 5100.00 Crore. The stretch-wise details are as under:-

 

Jammu to Akhnoor section is with National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) and the preparation of Detailed project Report for 4 lane of road is in advance stage which is about to complete.

The total civil cost of the project is approx 800 Crore. An amount of Rs 0.66 Core has been allocated for DPR against which Rs 0.03 Crore stands unitized so far.

Beside, an amount of Rs 332.35 Lacs has also been utilized for Improvement of Jammu-Akhnoor stretch under periodical Renewal Programme by PW (R&B) Department Jammu during 2016-17

Akhnoor-Poonch section

The road from Akhnoor-Nowshera-Poonch section with existing Carriage way of 2 lane has been entrusted to bro (SAMPARK) for its development to 2 lane 4 lane specifications. Contract for preparation of Detailed Project Report for 4 lane road from Akhnoor to Poonch has been awarded to M/s Highway Engineering Consultant Bhopal for Rs 441.93 lacs on 18th Oct, 2017 by BRO (SMPARK), work of survey & preparation of DPR is in progress. No funds have been utilized till date.

Hover ever, funds have been utilized for construction of Kalai bridge over river Poonch” and construction of approach road to kalai bridge which amounts to Rs 17.00 Crore and Rs 3.85 Crore respectively.
