Srinagar: The alleged mastermind of Asifa rape and murder has surrendered before the Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday.

Sanji Ram 60, is an ex-revenue official and was wanted by CB for his alleged role in the abduction rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl Asifa of Rasana Village in Hiranagar of Kathua district, surrender on Tuesday.

 “Yes, he has surrendered. His son was also arrested,” Director General of Police, Shesh Paul Vaid confirmed to media house Sanji’s surrender before CB.

According to sources Sanji surrendered himself before Senior Superintendent of Police (CB) Jammu, Ramesh Kumar Jhalla.

Sanji’s son Vishal, co accused in the case, was arrested by a special team of CB from Meerut in Uttar Pradesh.

So far CB has arrested eight people including two Special Police Officers (SPOs) Deepak Khajuria and Surinder Verma, Subam Sangra and Parvesh Kumar for their involvement in the horrific and brutal crime of minor nomad girl.

A Sub Inspector Anand Dutta, constable Tilak Raj Kumar were  also arrested after it was prima facie established that Raj had destroyed evidence by washing clothes of the victim that were soaked in blood and mud before sending them for forensic examination.

The alleged mastermind was also seen actively taking part in protests by Hindu Ekta Munch (HeM) earlier—the right-wing group which was formed after the crime took place.

HEM had taken our rallies against the arrest of accused persons and demanded the transfer of the case to CBI.
