Srinagar: Police has issued an alert after Lahker-e-Toiba commander Naved Jat escaped amid a shootout in SMHS hospital here.
There are conflicting reports about the shoot. While some reports suggest that Jat escaped with the help of two other militants who were waiting for him to arrive in the hospital, others suggest that Naved snatched rifle of one of the policemen escorting him and opened indiscriminate fire. A police officer said that the matter was being investigated but the militant did not decamp with the rifle.
Naveed Jat had been taken to SMHS hospital from Central jail Srinagar for a medical check-up. One policeman has died after he succumbed to injuries while two others are undergoing treatment at the hospital. .
The police officer said that Naveed Jat alias Abu Hanzullah, a resident of Multan Pakistan, was arrested by police, Rashtriya Rifles and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in a joint operation at Shampora village of Kulgam in June 2014.
Naveed Jat, who was district commander of LeT in Shopian then was close associate of LeT chief Abu Qasim, was killed in an encounter in 2016.
