Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly session on Saturday started with opposition members raising the issue of assault on Kashmiri students in Mahendargarh Haryana.
Senior National Conference (NC) leader and MLA Khanyar Ali Muhammad Sagar said it is “very unfortunate” that Kashmiri students are often beaten outside the state.
He slammed the government for failing to ensure safety of Kashmiri students studying in various parts of the country.
“This routine beating of our students has caused a mental distress among them. Such heinous acts only lead to further alienation of our youth,” he said.
MLA Pahalgam Altaf Kaloo raised the issue of a SKUAST student’s arrest in Bhopal and urged the government to take up the matter with the concerned authorities.
Minister for parliamentary affairs Abdul Rehman Veeri said two students from J&K were thrashed allegedly by nearly 15 people on Friday evening in Haryana’s Mahendragarh. He said police have arrested three of them and identified three more persons.
Veeri said the government has strongly taken the issue with the Haryana government and assured that strict action will be taken against miscreants.
The minister said the SKUAST student arrested in Bhopal has been released.
