Shopian: Five rounds of funeral prayers were held on Thursday for the Hizbul Mujahideen militant Sameer Ahmad who was killed along with his associate in an encounter with government forces in Shopian district last evening.
Reports said thousands of people from different areas rushed to Sameer’s native village— Audoo Shopian— to participate in his last rites. To accommodate the huge rush of people, funeral prayers were held five times to accommodate, they said.
Relatives and family members of Sameer were seen wailing while men and children raised pro-freedom slogans during his last rites. Sameer’s sister is admitted in Srinagar hospital after she suffered bullet wounds near the encounter site. The police says that she along with other girl were injured due to cross firing.
