SRINAGAR, AUG 4 :- A convoy of Indian police vehicles patrol on the sixth consecutive day of a curfew in Srinagar August 4, 2010. Kashmiri separatist leaders have appealed for calm in the biggest anti-India protests in two years that have killed dozens of people and raised fears that anger at New Delhi was spinning out of control. Shopian: Police opened fire in air after a car did not stop at a check-point in this south Kashmir district.
Reports said that panic gripped Alyalpora area of the district after police’s SOG personnel opened aerial shots to stop the car. “The vehicle was signaled to stop but the driver fled and the SOG personnel part of the naka (check point) party opened fire in an attempt to stop it,” a police officer said.
No one was injured in the incident. However, an alert has been issued to trace out the vehicle, the officer
SSP Shopian said that the suspected vehicle was challenged but the driver didn’t stop, forcing police personnel to open few Ariel shots.
