Sopore: The residents of Rafiabad, Watergam and adjoining villages of Sopore in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday held protest against PDD and PHE departments. They also blocked Baramulla-Handwara National Highway road.
Raising slogans against Power Development Department (PDD) and Public Health Engineering (PHE), the protesters alleged that despite repeated requests and reminders, the concerned departments have failed to address the problems of water and electricity in the areas.
They said they are facing immense hardships without electricity and drinking water.
“This is not the first time we hit the roads against PHE and PDD for their failure but authorities don’t seem bothered about our grievances,” the protesters told INS. “If our demand is not fulfilled soon, we will intensify our protests.”
While protesters blocked the road, police reached to the spot and were trying to restore the traffic.
The protest was going on in the area when this report was filed.
