Kupwara: Photos of a research scholar from Kupwara joining Hizbul Mujahideen has gone viral on the social media in Jammu and Kashmir.
The photos have set the alarm bells ringing for the police and other security establishment in the state, particularly from Kupwara.
In the photos, the youth, Manan Ahmad Wani (M.Phill, Ph.D in applied Geology from Alihrah Muslim University (AMU)) son of Bashir Ahmad Wani of Tekkipora Lolab, is seen wielding an AK-47 in his hand. He has reportedly joined the Hizbul Mujahiden on January 5.
Manan is a student of PhD from Aligarh Muslim University. He was quite active during recent AMU elections, reports said.
A top police official confirmed the joining of the Research scholar with militant outfit but refused to comment further on the issue.
