Kupwara avalanche: Rescuers find 3 bodies, 4 persons still missing

Kupwara: Rescuers working through the night pulled three bodies from snow after an avalanche near Sadhana Pass in Tangdhar area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Officials told INS that three bodies, two female and one male, were retrieved from the site during the night-long rescue operation by a joint team of army, police and locals.
A huge avalanche engulfed a TATA Sumo vehicle (JK09A-3249), which was on way to Tangdhar from Kupwara, at ‘Khooni Nallah’ at around 2.30 pm on Friday, burying up to 8 people under it.
In the initial operation, a boy of 8-10 years was recovered after remaining under snow for two and half hours and he was rushed to District Hospital Kupwara were from he was referred to Srinagar for specialized treatment.
“The rescue operation to locate other missing persons was going on,” the officials added.
Those travelling in the taxi were identified by the officials as Fazil Hussain son of Sarvar Shah of Chamkot, Fareed Hussain son of Mohammad Ali Shah his wife Chabi Begum, both from Chamkot, Master Abdul Rashid Joo son of Abdul Majeed of Dildar, Nahida daughter of Bashir Ahmad Khoja of Gundgugran, Shafqat begum wife of Maqbool Hussain Shah of Gundseyda and Ghulam Nabi Bhat son of Ali Mohammad Bhat of Kalmona (Tarathpora).
