Pulwama: Clashes erupted at Kareemabad village of this south Kashmir district on Friday morning soon after the government forces launched Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in the area.
Sources told INS that acting on a tip off about the presence of some militants in the village, the joint team of army, SOG and CRPF laid a cordon at about 3 am in the wee hours of Friday.
“Soon after the forces cordoned the area, people woke up and started protests. They also threw stones at the forces who retaliated with teargas shelling. The clashes continued for hours till morning,” an eyewitness said.
Reports said militants present there managed to flee from the spot while taking the advantage of darkness and protests.
Meanwhile, the situation in the area returned to normal.
