Rajouri: Rajouri police arrested a rape accused while attempting to escape to Gulf country at Mumbai Airport, police said on thursday.

Identified as Ajaz Ahmed Malik S/O Rehmat Ullah R/O Fazla Abad, Tehsil Surankote, District Poonch, accused was wanted in case FIR no 67/2017 U/S 366, 376,109 RPC of Police Station Thanamandi in Rajouri district. Accused was absconding since July 2017.

“Recently police received specific input that accused is attempting to escape to Gulf countries after which SDPO Thanamandi Iftikar A Chowdhary under the supervision of SSP Rajouri Yougal Manhas established contact through proper channel with Immigration and Passport Authority of India and shared the details of case and accused to foil his attempt to escape to Gulf countries,” police said.

According to police  the accused in attempt to escape for Kuwait, approached at Mumbai airport but his passport and other relevant documents were blocked by the concerned authority on the basis of information by Rajouri police.

Concerned authorities than informed Rajouri police about the approach of accused at Mumbai Airport after which a team from Thanamandi was rushed to Mumbai and raided a location from where accused was nabbed and has been brought back in Rajouri.

Further investigation into the case is going on.
