Restrictions in Srinagar parts to prevent protests; rail service suspended

9SRNP1: SRINAGAR, FEBRUARY 9 (UNI) Security personnel keeping vigil during curfew-like restrictions at Mirwaiz Manzil in down town Srinagar on Thursday.

Authorities have decided to impose restrictions in most of the old city areas to prevent demonstrations and protests on the international human rights day on Sunday. Separatist leaders have called for a day long strike to observe the day.

Officials speaking for the District Administration in Srinagar said prohibitory restrictions under section 144 CrPc shall remain imposed in various Srinagar belts managed by as many as nine police stations. These include the police stations of Rainawari, Nowhatta, Khanyar, M R Gunj, Safa Kadal and Maisuma. Besides, Kralkhud, Kothibagh and Ram Munshibagh police station areas will have partial restrictions. Restrictions is an informal curfew in which movemnet of people is highly regulated.

Joint Resistance Leadership has called for a day long strike.
