Srinagar: National Conference on Thursday asked Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti to review her Government’s decision to deny compensation to the human-shield victim Farooq Ahmed Dar of Beerwah as per the recommendations of the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC).
In a statement issued here, a spokesman of the party said the Chief Minister’s tendency to wait for orders and permissions from New Delhi was the reason behind her Government not only denying but ridiculing the recommendation of the SHRC.
“Farooq Ahmed Dar was used a human-shield by the Army during the Lok Sabha polls and the State Human Rights Commission  (SHRC) found the tale that was presented to justify this atrocity as baseless and in due course recommended that the state government should compensated Dar,” the spokesman, adding, “The State Government in return not only denied him compensation but also ridiculed the SHRC and its Chairman for this recommendation – questioning the very locus standi of the Commission.”
The Spokesperson said while Mehbooba “followed” orders from the MHA to grant amnesty to first time offenders in the Valley was welcome, her inability to take initiative to ensure justice for people like Dar was a contradiction and highlighted her Government’s actual intent. “When Mehbooba Mufti can follow the recommendations of the MHA about the amnesty initiative why can’t she respect the recommendations of the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC)? Does every order and initiative have to be permitted and scripted in Delhi for Mehbooba Mufti to fulfil her moral and constitutional obligations to the people of the State?”
The spokesperson said the Government should review its “arrogant and illegitimate” denial of compensation to Dar without any delay and ensure a strong message was sent all quarters that “justified this atrocious act.”
