Sopore: Congested roads, traffic jams irks commuters, authorities say ‘relief coming soon’

Sopore November 26: While encroachment on roads and footpaths have lead to continuous ‘trauma for commuters’, District administration says, ‘project to decongest apple town roads’ is coming soon.

“With few exceptions, there are no footpaths left in sopore town,” shopkeepers in Iqbal Market Sopore told INS.

Iqbal Market, Degree College Road Road, Bandipora road, Main chowk, General bus stand are worst affected.

The problems for commuters in increased, as commuters complain, that there is no place of parking.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sopore, Khursheed Ahmed Shah said that the town is badly affected by traffic jams but ‘a project of Rs 78 lakhs has been sanctioned and funds has also been released for smooth and traffic-jam-free drives in Sopore town’.

“Encroachments of roads and pathways will be removed soon, they are one of the reasons for road accidents and congestion,” Shah said.
