Srinagar: Police on Wednesday claimed to have arrested Hizb-ul-Mujahaideen militant Shamsul Waqar in area of Kulgam district.

A top official told INS that Shamsul Waqar was arrested near railway station Qazigund in South Kashmir including AK47 Rifle.

Viqar is a resident of Ganjipora village of Kulgam district and had joined Lashkar-e-Toiba in March this year. Before joining militancy, he was a student of Delhi Public School (DPS) Sangam.

He was a known cricketer who often used to play at Cricket Stadium Anantnag.
