Srinagar: The Joint Resistance Leadership on Friday said that assault on modesty and dignity of women was intolerable as they called for ‘civil curfew’ in state against unabated braid chopping in the Kashmir Valley.
In a statement issued here, the joint resistance leadership comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik they met at Hyderpora on Thursday evening and decided to call shutdown and civil curfew on Saturday.
They asked asking traders, transporters and people to suspend their routine activities, saying that as an “oppressed nation, we are left with no other option except to take these tough and painful decision.”
They also discussed various issues including incessant incidents of braid chopping and attempts to tamper with state subject laws.
The meeting while taking serious notice of continuous “bloodshed, lawlessness and arbitrary measures inflicted on people by forces and (ruling) regime”, asked people to observe complete shutdown on Saturday against unending incidents of braid chopping.
Referring to Kupwara and Pahalgam incidents, the resistance leadership said that these incidents serve as eye-opener. “The assault on women is a ploy hatched by forces men. Well trained sleuths are involved in this devilish game,” they said, adding, “Assault on modesty and dignity of women is intolerable.
Resistance leader strongly condemned the assault on women and said that these attacks are now becoming more alarming and dangerous as even male members of families are being attacked by these criminals. If not halted immediately, they said, it will take an ugly turn and may consume more human lives.
“Police is very swift while arresting the wanted persons and even catch hold innocents Kashmiris from Jammu and outside states,” resistance leaders said, saying that these braid choppers are carrying their devilish game under their nose. “However police is maintaining their criminal silence over such inhuman activities carried by criminals.”
Reiterating their appeal, the leaders asked people to handover these suspicious elements to trustworthy persons or local Masjid committees for onward action and said that they in no case should punish them.
