Srinagar: The army on Monday stuck to claim about death to its junior commissioned officer (JCO) at Budgam in central Kashmir.
“Late Subedar Raj Kumar sustained bullet injury during a late night operation in Drang Village of Khag Tehsil. He was provided immediate first aid and evacuated to hospital but unfortunately succumbed to the injury,” army said in a statement even as police’s Inspector General Kashmir said that the 47-year-old JCO died in accidental fire.
In a solemn ceremony at BB Cantt here, Lt Gen JS Sandhu, Chinar Corps Commander and all ranks, paid homage to the Kumar. “In a show of solidarity, representatives from other security agencies also joined in paying their last respects to the martyr.”
Kumar had joined Army in 1990 and hailed from Village Khanni in Himachal Pradesh. He is survived by his wife Toshi Devi and two sons, the statement said.
“The mortal remains of the martyr were flown for last rites to his native place, where he would be laid to rest with full military honours. In this hour of grief, the Army stands in solidarity with the bereaved family of the martyr and remains committed to their dignity and well being.
