Kupwara: District Institute of Educational Training DIET in Kupwara district of north Kashmir is working without a principal from past four months and as against required seven head of Departments there is only one. Officials say every thing will be fine ‘soon’.

The building housing DIET, at Buhipora area of Kupwara, was constructed two years back however, ‘lackadaisical working approach’ and ‘callousness’ has marred working of the institute.

Basic facilities like electricity, drinking water and Advanced Classrooms for Teachers who are being taught in DIET are missing.

A teacher from the district wishing anonymity told INS that: “There is no proper electric connection to the building but one line that teachers have managed somehow and we fetch water for the DIET. Roof top is covered with beehives.”

“The DIETs are manned by Seven HOD’s, 15-16 DIET Lecturers and one Principal, however there is no principal and lecturers are not to full strength,” he added.

According to district president Teachers Forum Mohammad Amin Khan, “DIET has to have seven head of departments however DIET kupwara has one.”

Teachers complained that the issue was various times discussed with the ‘higher authorities’ but to no avail.

“Diet is a premier institute in every district and it is the place where teachers are trained, however with such a pathetic condition how can we boost of being resourceful teachers,” Khan said.

Principal State Institute of Education Kashmir, Mehboob Hussain told INS that the ‘vacant posts will be filled soon’.

“I know there are problems, have raised them with authorities and soon all the grievances will be redressed,” Hussain said.
