Srinagar: Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq continues to remain under house arrest at his Nigeen residence Srinagar, a spokesman of the amalgam said on Saturday.
Mirwaiz was confined to his residence on late Thursday evening and the action by authorities followed its announcement of imposing restrictions within the jurisdiction of five police stations including Nowhatta, housing the historic Jamia Masjid where Mirwaiz delivers sermon on Friday.
The spokesman condemned the ‘unabated’ curbs on Mirwaiz, terming the state’s action not only “unjustified and undemocratic but aggressive and revengeful attitude towards him.”
“The often curbs on the movement of Mirwaiz not only affect his activities being a religious and political leader but socially also,” the spokesman said, adding, “No justification is given to confine Mirwaiz to his residence and it an abortive attempt on part of the government to limit his public interactions.”
