Srinagar: Authorities on Thursday evening placed Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest at his Nigeen residence Srinagar, a spokesman of the amalgam said.
The action follows announcement of curbs within the jurisdiction of five police stations including Nowhatta, housing the historic Jamia Masjid where Mirwaiz delivers Friday sermon. The government has also ordered closure of all schools and colleges in Srinagar.
