Srinagar:  Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani on Wednesday accused New Delhi of using NIA as a war weapon against the separatist leadership and traders’ community in Jammu and Kashmir.
During its Majlis Shoora (executive body) meeting at Hyderpora here to assess situation after recent raids by NIA on the residences of separatist leadership, the participants said that the agency has no role and “it is unjustified and illogical to drag it in Kashmir,” a spokesman said in a statement issued here.
The participants in univocal voice, the spokesman said that raids were aimed to “defame and discredit freedom struggle.”
The Hurriyat Conference said that NIA raids and detaining Shabir Ahmad Shah, Mohammad Altaf Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Meraj-u-Din Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Shahid-ul-Islam, Dr Nayem Geelani and Dr Naseem Geelani was politically motivated. The Hurriyat Conference urged International organizations for human rights to take their cognizance.
The meeting reviewed the “concept of future strategy and work plans”, the spokesman said, adding, that the prevailing situation in state was “grim”. The participants reiterated their pledge to forge unity among its constituent units and fight “tooth and nail” the political, economic and cultural “aggression” at all levels.
“All constituent members while hailing the selfless services rendered by Syed Ali Geelani condemned the disinformation campaign launched by NIA against him and his family members,” the spokesman said.
In his presidential address, Syed Ali Geelani while rejecting the Indian stand on Kashmir said that it is unrealistic and against all historical facts and hence India was occupying the state purely through its military might.
“ Geelani stressed members to forge close and intact relations with people and asked members to apprise them about the deceit being played by pro-Indian politicians about article 370 & 35 A,” the spokesman said, adding, “ It is better for them to repent for their wrongdoings and join people’s movement.” Geelani also asked the pro-Indian parties to apologize for the “miseries they inflicted to nation.”
The octogenarian leader also appointed Haji Ghulam Nabi Sumji as Secretary General, Mohammad Yousuf Mir as Deputy Secretary General and Ghulam Ahmad Gulzar as chief spokesman for Hurriyat Conference.
Geelani in strong words condemned attack on Shabir Ahmad Shah in Patiala court and urged international community to take cognizance of serious matter and ensure safety of those arrested by NIA.
