Army’s Srinagar based defence spokesperson told GNS that soldiers posted at Machil sector near Line of Control noticed some suspicious movement near the fence today in the afternoon. “The army fired some shots which were retaliated by the infiltrators. The militants fired indiscriminately and in the gunfight that ensued, five infiltrators were gunned down,” he said.

The official said that the bodies of all five militants have been recovered along with arms and ammunition from the gunfight spot. “We are ascertaining their outfit affiliation,” the official said, adding that army has successfully managed to foil many infiltration attempts in Machil sector in recent past.
