Srinagar: Police claimed to have arrested three Over Ground Workers (OGWs) of LeT in South Kashmir district of Shopian on Saturday.
“Acting on a tip off, a joint Naka of Police and 62 RR was established near Nagbal in Police jurisdiction of Zainapora. During Naka, three OGWs of LeT identified as Showkat Ahmad Mir son of Abdul Kabir Mir resident of Chitragam, Waseem Ahmad Sofi son of Mushtaq Ahmad Sofi resident of Chitragam Kalan and Junaid Ali Bhat son Ali Mohammad Bhat resident of Sugoo Hindhama were apprehended and 03 hand grenades were recovered from their possession”, a police spokesman in a statement issued here said.
During questioning, the OGWs admitted that they were working at behest of LeT operative Wasim Shah and were tasked to lob grenades on Police establishments, cause death/injuries to Police personnel and snatch weapons in Shopian. The OGWs had also carried out observation of some Police guards to perpetrate terrorist attacks, he said.
Shopian Police has registered a case in this regard and investigation was set into motion. (GNS)
