Srinagar: A complete shutdown was observed for the fourth consecutive day on Monday in Beerwah town of Central Kashmir’s Budgam district to mourn the killing of a civilian, who was killed after opened fire in the town on Friday.
All the shops and other business establishments were closed in the town while the traffic was also thin on the roads.
Meanwhile, reports said that clashes erupted between youth and forces in Beerwah town after the mourners mostly youth took part in congregational fateha Khawani of the slain civilian.
Witnesses said that forces deployed in the area resorted to teargas shelling to disperse the protesters.
Tanveer Ahmad Wani, a tailor by profession was killed while another civilian was injured in army firing on Friday.
Police had said that army opened fire after mistaking sound of fire crackers with a grenade blast while army had said that soldiers retaliated after protesters tried to snatch rifles from them. (KNS)
