Slain militants laid to rest in Anantnag

Srinagar: The militants killed in the Wanihama operation in Anantnag were buried in their respective graveyards in their localities.
Police said three LeT militants were killed on Monday late evening in a “chance encounter” in Bulbul Nowgam in Anantnag outskirts. The three militants identified as Showket Lohar of Arwani and Muzaffar Hajam in Danvethpora Kokernag were laid to rest amid funerals attended by large number of mourners.
The third identified as Naseer Ahmad of Pehru, Anantnag, was driving the car in which the militants were traveling, police said.
His family denied that their son was militant and said that he was returning from his maternal grandparents. However, SSP Anantnag Altaf Khan told KNS that he was a militant.
Meanwhile, a shutdown was observed in Anantnag and Arwani areas against the killing of the three militants.
Large number of people participated in the funerals of the slain militants, amid pro-freedom slogans.
Meanwhile, Army today said that its troops foiled an infiltration bid by militants along the Line of Control in Kashmir’s Gurez sector, killing two of them, a defence spokesperson told KNS.
He said that weapons were recovered from the scene of the incident. Search operations in the area are on.
In another incident, the spokesperson said an Army Officer was killed in the firing by one of the Army man at one of the forward posts in Uri Sector along LoC.
A Defence spokesman told KNS that the officer succumbed to his injuries on the spot. Further investigations by the Army and the Police are underway.
The spokesperson said that one soldier was killed in Naugam Sector in Kupwara after Pakistani army violated ceasefire. (KNS)
