Amid internet blockade, Anantnag shuts to mourn the killing of three militants

Anantnag: Amid internet blockade, authorities shutdown all the educational institutions in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district after the overnight killing of three local militants in a brief gunfight near Bulbul Nowgam in the town.
Meanwhile, people observed a complete shutdown to mourn these killings in the district.
Reports said that all the shops and business establishments remained shut while skeletal movement of transport was noticed on the roads.
Three militants, Showket Lohar, a resident of Arwani; Muzaffar Hajam, a resident of Danvethpora, Kokernag and Naseer Ahmad, resident of Hakhoora Badasgam presently settled at Pehru village were killed in an ambush last night.
The ambush was laid by army and police in Watergam near Bulbul Nowgam on the Brakpora-Dialgam link road area of Anantnag district.
Locals informed that shortly after the culmination of gunfight, clashes erupted in different parts of the town between the pro-freedom protesters and government forces. Locals added that to disperse the protesters at Dunepawa, Shirpora, Bulbul Nowgam, Forces lobbed tear-smoke shells.
Clashes also erupted on Tuesday between protesters and government forces while youth took to streets and hurled rocks at forces to express their anger at the killings of three militants in Moominabad and Dialgam area amid shutdown.
The Government Forces retaliated with tear-smoke shelling. The clashes continued for hours in these areas.
Meanwhile, thousands of people participated in the last rites of these 3 local slain militants. The mourners including a large gathering of females chanted pro-freedom slogans. (CNS)
