JK Police helps 3 students with hearing disability to hear, respond

Srinagar: Three students of Modern High School, Rambagh, Srinagar were provided assistance by Jammu and Kashmir Police, enabling them to hear and respond. These students accompanied by their parents, today met the Director General of Police Dr. S.P Vaid at Police Headquarters.
V.K Singh, when posted as ADGP Security J&K in September 2015, took the initiative of screening fifteen students with hearing disability at Modern High School, Rambagh, Srinagar under Civic Action Plan(CAP). The ENT specialist at SMHS Hospital Srinagar certified that two students namely Abida Hanief daughter of Mohammad Hanief Lone resident of Old Barzulla Srinagar and Rutba Rashid daughter of Abdul Rashid Hajam resident of Narkara Budgam could be benefited by way of Cochlear Implant Surgery. Accordingly an amount of Rs.12 lakhs were incurred by Police under CAP, through Principal Govt. Medical College Srinagar on their Cochlear Implant Surgery and Rs. thirty one thousand also incurred on account of providing a hearing aid to Abid Hussain son of Arshad Ahmad resident of Litter Pulwama through M/S Aash Speech & Hearing Clinic Srinagar.
Cochlear Implant Surgery was conducted by Professor Dr.Rafiq Ahmad Pampori, former Principal GMC, Srinagar, Dr. Rouf Ahmad, HoD, ENT SMHS, Srinagar and Dr. Aleena, Registrar ENT, SMHS Srinagar. Hearing Aid Implant activity was conducted by Dr. Tariq Ahmad, Audiologist, SMHS Srinagar.
These students along with their parents/ guardians today called on the DGP and thanked him for the noble gesture and assistance.DGP interacted with student beneficiaries and also their parents/ guardians. He said that it is hearting to note that police efforts have shown good results. He also hailed the efforts of ADGP Sh. V.K Singh, the doctors and AIG Welfare Dr. Haseeb Mughal for getting the disability of the students treated, by medical intervention.
Pertinent to mention here that Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, GOI has launched a scheme for assistance of such disabled children. Under the scheme Cochlear implants up to Rs. 6 lakhs per unit are provided for children under the age of two years with hearing disability. (KNS)
