Srinagar: National Conference President and Member of Parliament for Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Saturday said empowering youth politically, socially and economically was one of the most important responsibilities of the party and said the party would continue to involve young leaders and young faces in its efforts to reclaim the State’s political rights and sense of dignity. Addressing the Party’s Provincial Committee Meeting at Party Head Office ‘Nawa-e-Subha’ Complex in Srinagar, Dr. Farooq Abdullah asked the party’s leaders and legislators to ensure they continue to be accessible to the people and work day and night to ameliorate the lives of their constituents.
“Youth empowerment is a topmost priority of the party and it is the duty of senior leaders to handhold young activists and workers and empower them with a deep understanding of the State’s history and of the challenges that we face. We have to repose faith in our younger generation as their imagination and enthusiasm will be vital to evolve solutions to the problems we face – both on the governance and also the political front”, Dr. Farooq Abdullah said while addressing the party leaders and legislators.
Dr. Farooq Abdullah, while taking stock of various organizational activities and matters said the party was based on the bedrock of public service and selfless struggle. “It is this ethos that has guided the party over the past almost eight decades and we should pass on this legacy to our future generation. Politics is the most effective tool to bring about a change for the better – to improve the lives of our people and to resolve issues. We should leave no stone unturned to highlight public grievances and ensure their speedy redressal. Every party legislator should continue to be accessible to his constituents and do everything possible to help the people in the resolution of public issues”, the National Conference President said.
Besides the internal organizational affairs of the party, the party leaders and legislators discussed various vital issues including that of the extension of GST to the State and also the deteriorating security scenario. The Provincial Committee Meeting was also attended by NC General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani, Zone Presidents Muhammad Akbar Lone and Ali Muhammad Dar, Mir Saifullah, Shameema Firdous, Muhammad Sayeed Akhoon, Ghulam Nabi Ratanpuri, Ghulam Qadir Pardesi, Provincial Secretary Showkat Ahmed Mir, Ghulam Rasool Naaz, Party District Presidents Javed Ahmed Dar, Qaiser Jamsheed Lone, Peer Muhammad Afaq, Showkat Hussain Ganai, Youth President Salman Ali Sagar, State Spokesperson Junaid Azim Mattu besides party office bearers and members of the Provincial Committee.
