Srinagar: At least 25 persons were injured after forces swooped down on Turkuwangan village of Shopian district of Shopian during night hours.
According to locals, the forces men raided the village during nocturnal hours and resorted to vandalism. They said that the forces men damage whatever came in their way from parked vehicles to residential hours. The locals alleged that the forces men also beat inmates which resulted in injuries to 25 persons, some of whom were referred to Srinagar for treatment.
The locals said that the forces men carried out the raid to ‘avenge’ the stone-pelting on their vehicles yesterday in the village. “There was a minor stone-pelting incident yesterday in our village and we believe the forces raid was in response to that,” they said, adding: “there is no accountability and people are subjected to worst atrocities.”
Meanwhile, locals of Vihil village of Shopian said that the forces men also swooped down on their village and ransacked houses and vehicles after local children burst crackers to celebrate victory of Pakistan against Sri Lanka last night. They said that the forces men resorted to unprecedented vandalism in the village. “Some of our children burst crackers which angered the forces men and they wreaked havoc here,” said the locals.
In another incident, the government forces were accused of vandalism by residents of Kareemabad village of Pulwama district. The residents said that the forces raided the village in night hours and damaged the vehicles. They further said that the banner size posters and hoardings of slain militants near local martyrs’ graveyard were also torn apart by forces men. Hurriyat (G) meanwhile has condemned the forces action in Shopian and termed it lawlessness.(GNS)
