‘Forces attacked in Vessu, civilian injured’; CASO in Lal Chowk

Srinagar: Police on Saturday said a civilian was injured after unidentified militants fired towards government forces vehicles at Vessu in Qazigund area of Kulgam district in South Kashmir.
A police spokesman in a statement issued to GNS said: “Today one Arif, a resident of Bakshiabad, Anantnag, who is working in a construction company at Banihal reported at Public Health Centre Vesu that at around 5 in the morning when he was on way to Banihal at Vesu unknown militants fired upon the two security force vehicles which were moving ahead of his car number JK02BJ 6600.”
The police said that the fire missed the target and hit his car and he was injured in the back.“Though he is stable so far, he has been referred to SMHS Srinagar for specialised treatment. About 20 empty cases of AK ammunition have been recovered from the spot. A case has been registered and investigation has been taken up,” added the spokesman.
Meanwhile, panic gripped Lal Chowk after contingents of heavily armed government forces launched a cordon and search operation in the area. Eyewitnesses said that the forces men including SOG cordoned off Court Road and Palladium Cinema area.
The forces men launched searches in Court Road interiors and later after around 40 minutes called off the operation. Due to presence of forces vehicles including army’s CASPER, panic gripped pedestrians and commuters. No one was arrested and CASO passed off peacefully.(GNS)
