Traffic Police books 1.61 lac violators in State

Srinagar: The traffic Police Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday claimed to have booked 1.1 crore violators in the State and recovered fine of Rs.2.88 crore in the first quarter of the year.
“During the period 1390 vehicles were seized while as 25426 two wheeler drivers found without helmets, 2264 triple ridding and 2939 with overloading,” official said, in a statement issued to KNS.
They said that for the better traffic management and to curb traffic violations in the state and ensure public safety on roads, various remedial measures, besides on spot decisions were taken in consultation with other stake holders at different levels of traffic management in the twin Capital Cities and major towns of State. JMC, SDA, JDA, Municipal councils, National High way Authorities, and Transport Unions /Companies were provided necessary support for better and smooth flow of traffic.
The department organized traffic awareness camps/ seminars in educational institutions to improve road user behavior and educate the youth. Special drives were launched against the offences. Motorcycle rallies were organized in twin Cities of Srinagar and Jammu for awareness of youth and general public. Motor cycles fitted with PA systems for important announcements were introduced for public awareness and road clearance for smooth flow of traffic not only in cities but in rural areas as well. Keeping in view the condition of National Highway from Banihal to Nashri, a successful two way plan was devised for smooth flow of light motor vehicles
During the period, with the active co-operation of all stakeholders, road encroachments, on-road parking and other traffic ills were mitigated to a considerable level to ensure safe and smooth flow of traffic. Road diversions plans were formulated along construction zones to ensure smooth flow of traffic. Special drive was accelerated to book violators and in the first quarter of the current year 1.61 lac challans were executed with a fine realization of Rs 2.88 Crore.
