Srinagar, June 07: Four militants were killed in a fierce gunfight at Machil sector along line of control in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday.

A police officer told news agency GNS that Army’s 56 RR launched a cordon and search operation at Sardari Nad forest area. As such the search party intensified the combing operation, the militants hiding in the area opened fire triggering off a gun fight.

In the exchange of gunfire that continued throughout the day, four militants were killed, the officer said, adding that bodies of three slain insurgents have been recovered along with three AK 47 rifles while another body is lying in nallah.

Meanwhile, two soldiers were injured after suspected militants opened fire on soldiers in Uri sector of Baramulla district near Line of Control. Police sources said that soldiers of 4 JAKLI came under fire from militants near Kikkar Post and Anil Post at Gohalta Top in Uri sector today. He said that the firing left two soldiers identified as Farhat Ali and Sepoy Vijay Sharma injured. They were shifted to hospital and their condition is stated to be stable. The sources said that a search operation was launched in the area by troopers in the day and while they were concluding they came under the fire.(GNS)
