Srinagar: On the occasion of 27thmartyrdom anniversary of Shaheed-e-Milat Mirwaiz Moulana Muhammad Farooq, Hawal martyrs and the 15thmartyrdom anniversary of Shaheed-e-Hurriyat Khajwa Abdul Gani Lone, a complete shutdown was observed on the call of joint resistance leadership across the region.
Hurriyat Conference (M) expressed its gratitude to the people for their continuous love towards the great martyrs and their support to the movement.
Authorities once again resorted to their standard repressive response of imposing curfew and curbs and turning the entire downtown into a military fortress to foil the mass public participation in paying homage to the Martyred leaders ,the martyrs of Hawal massacres and all other Martyrs at the martyrs graveyard in Eidgah where joint resistance leadership of Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik along with the people would re confirm and recommit to the pledge of taking the martyr’s mission and the on-going freedom struggle towards realization.
All main roads, lanes and by lanes in these areas were barricaded and blocked by placing rolls of concertina wires to prevent people from moving towards martyrs graveyard.
The main venue of Eidgah was completely sealed from all directions with hundreds of force’s personnel patrolling the grounds and not allowing anyone to even walk on main road. APHC spokesman said despite such severe curbs and caging of resistance leaders, in Srinagar, efforts were made by people especially the youth to take out peaceful marches towards Eidgah, but police and paramilitary personnel used force to prevent them from reaching the venue. The spokesman strongly condemned the imposition of curfew and the action of the forces.
The spokesman said that police also conducted a series of raids on the houses of AAC and APHC leaders and activists during which dozens of leaders, workers and activists were detained.
He said across the valley Imams of various masjids held special Fateh prayers for their beloved leader Shaheed-e-Milat, martyrs of Hawal and Shaheed-e-Hurriyat.
APHC spokesman strongly condemned the continuous house detention of its chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Senior Resistance leader Syed Ali Geelani, APHC leader Mukhtar Ahmed Waza, Media advisor to Mirwaiz Advocate Shahidul Islam, Advocate Yasir Dalal, and dozens of other leaders and activists to prevent them from marching towards the martyrs graveyard and foiling the programs of Hafta-e-shahadat. The Spokesman said that the claimants of largest democracy don’t even allow people to pay homage and respect to their beloved leaders .The spokesman said that such acts are a sheer display of arrogance of power and might and a reminder of the state of occupation that the people of Kashmir are under.
