Srinagar: Former chief minister and National Conference Working president Omar Abdullah Tuesday accused chief minister Mehbooba Mufti of using government machinery to salvage her “non-existing credibility”.
Omar, while sharing a video of Umeed function at SKICC on his twitter, said: “I dread to imagine what lies @MehboobaMufti tells PM Modi in private when she can’t even be honest about things everyone can see videos of,” Omar tweeted.
“This is what happens when the machinery of Govt is used for the sole purpose of rebuilding @MehboobaMufti’s non-existing credibility.”
The former CM was speaking about the event at SKICC where Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti was scheduled to address an interactive programme with women self help groups organised by Rural Development Department’s State Rural Livelihoods Mission.
Hundreds of women had come from different parts of the Valley to participate in the programme. However, the event turned into chaos when women protested at the event.
Talking to reporters the chief minister said that the chaos was created after a woman fainted.
“It is good effort that women are participating in the Umeed programme and are earning their livelihood. It is interesting to hear the success stories of poor women. More than 12000 women had come to participate and it was difficult to control them and there were less arrangements of drinking water. In fact a woman fainted and other women panicked which created chaos,” Mehbooba told reporters.
“I hope that the programme will be organised again as it is important,” she said.
A woman said that they were told to attend a training programme under UMEED scheme in Srinagar.
“We had come here to attend UMEED programme. We did not know that Mehbooba (Mufti) is coming here. Had we known it that she was coming here, we would not have come. We don’t want to see her face,” a young woman told reporters outside SKICC. (KNS)
