Srinagar: The Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) on Tuesday strongly condemned the slapping on 35th PSA on the incarcerated chairman of Muslim League Masarat Alam Bhat and said the pro-freedom leader is subjected to political vengeance.
In a statement issued to KNS, DFP secretary general Moulana Abdullah Tari said the champions of the so-called “battle of ideas” are hell bent on putting behind bars that every person having a different political view.
He said the late Mufti Sayeed released Alam for few days just to make a show off but ultimately followed the dictates from Delhi and arrested the resistance leader.
Moulana said the PSA is a world acknowledged ‘black, merciless, and lawless law”. “Though this law was used against jungle smugglers but the late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah used it against his political opponents and the tradition is carried forward by Muftis,” he said.
Tari said the late Mufti’s slogan of “battle of ideas” was the “biggest joke” as this party instead of fighting its opponents in a political way chose to put resistance leadership behind bars at the behest of its Nagpur masters.
The DFP chairman expressed serious concern over the continuous detention of the ailing Hurriyat and People’s League leader Ghulam Mohammad Khan Sopori. “Despite his deteriorating health, he is being lodged in Kot Bhalwal Jail and not provided any medical facilities,” he said.
Abdullah slammed authorities for the detention of Dukhtaran-e-Millat (DeM) chairperson Syeda Aasiya Andrabi and other female activists saying they are being implicated in false cases.
He said by shifting political prisoners to outside J&K jails, authorities are putting their lives in danger as several incidents of attacks on inmates have been recorded in past. “The political prisoners are subjected to inhuman treatment and the world human rights bodies including ICRC should take cognisance of such issues and take steps towards securing the release of the political prisoners of J&K,” he said.
“Dr Muhammad Qasim, Ghulam Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariati, Ghulam Qadir Bhat, and scores of other incarcerated leaders have completed life terms and are not released yet. Many have crossed 22 years in Jaipur and Delhi jails and their parents are not allowed to meet them.”
Moulana criticised the administration for keeping several of DFP leaders and activists which include district president Pulwama Mohammad Amin, district president Shopian Tanveer Ahmad, and others under continuous detention. “Despite court orders, they are not released,” he said.
Tari also condemned the nocturnal raids, vandalising of properties, use of force against students and their arrests saying the lava of anger is being brewing among people which can burst anytime.
