Srinagar, May 10: Department of Local Bodies has started acting tough against ‘corrupt’ officials working in different Municipal Committees across Kashmir Valley.
Official sources said that complaints have been pouring in about some officials who make possible for offenders to raise illegal structures. Taking note of such complaints, Director Local Bodies Mr Reyaz Ahmed Wani recently suspended and attached at least 10 employees from Municipal Committees of Central Kashmir’s Budgam and Ganderbal districts.
“The attached or suspended employees of these Municipal Committees have grabbed money and facilitated illegal constructions. Committees have been constituted to probe these allegations,” said an official.
Reliable sources told news agency CNS that the three employees including a lady officer recently attached by Director Local Bodies in Municipal Committee Ganderbal have been using their good offices to get the government order revoked. Sources added that attached lady officer who has been in MC Ganderbal from past 10 years with an additional charge has the backing of a top Local Body officer who happens to be her close relative.
It is not the first time that MC Ganderbal has in news for bad reasons. Earlier as well, the complaints poured in about some employees misusing their official position. “Most of the employees at MC Ganderbal have not been transferred from past decade as a result they have started acting like dictators. I myself complained about an official but no action was initiated against him,” said a local adding that attached employees will soon be reinstated.
“We had received a complaint that few employees including a lady officer in Municipal Committee Ganderbal have facilitated illegal constructions and on that basis some employees were attached with Deputy Commissioner’s office Ganderbal. I don’t know if any of the attached employees is relative of a top official, besides nobody is above law,” Director Local Bodies Reyaz Ahmed Wani told CNS.
